Posted 22 June 2004 by Jacqui Stokes Although I am now a Stokes by marriage I am the youngest at 34, of 5 Trinder children born in the Leicester area. My father Cyril Albert Leonard Trinder comes from the Crystal Palace area of London and his father (Leonard Trinder), I believe, brought his family up to Leicester during or maybe just after the second world war. My father is one of 7 children and also believe had connections in the Storrington area of Sussex. I am trying to trace a family cottage owned/used by the Trinders around the 1950's. It is called "Lilac Cottage" and is believed to be somewhere in the Storrington area. I enclose a picture - slightly obscured is the name Lilac Cottage.

Posted 8 June 2003 by Denise Thompson,
Sydney, Australia. I am commencing a search for my ancestor Mary Trinder, who I am told was born in 1802 in Gloucestershire (or perhaps Shepton Mallet, Somerset). Mary had a brother Charles, and I believe he is the Charles, born in 1805 at Northleach, Gloucestershire. The parents of this Mary and Charles were Richard and Mary. Mary married John Langdon in London in 1823, and in Dec 1828 they arrived in NSW on board the "Wave", together with three sons. They had a total of eight children, and in December 1835 John Langdon died, aged 37. Six of his children survived him, and in March 1837 Mary married Thomas Holmes in Sydney. Thomas was from Bristol. Mary Holmes, formerly Langdon, nee Trinder, died in Sydney in June 1879, and only two of her eight children survived her. Her death certificate stated that her parents were Henry Trinder (a farmer), and Mary. I don't know if the informant got her father's name wrong, or if the info I have about Richard is incorrect. In 1842 Charles Trinder was in NSW, but I don't know when he arrived. By January 1857 Charles had returned to England and was living in Swaivington (?) Leicester. He died in England in June 1869. If you have any information on Richard and Mary, and their children Mary and Charles Trinder I would love to hear from you. I am happy for you to use this information, but I must emphasise I have not personally researched the family before their arrival in NSW, and cannot guarantee its accuracy. The Langdon family in NSW are proving to be fascinating to research. I am descended from their eldest daughter Elizabeth. Hope you can assist me, and thank you in anticipation If you think you might have any information contact me on denise.thompson1@bigpond.com Posted 20 June 2004 by Mike Trinder A possible link has emerged following the inclusion of the Swannington page. It appears the family above could be related to Henry Trinder of Swannington. |
